A Day in the Life
The main objective of the Sr. Manager, PMO, is to successfuclly lead the execution of a portfolio of projects. These projects may include new product development, product lifecycle management and other strategic intitiaves within Medtronic’s Surigical Innovations Visualtion class of trade and follow the Product Development Phase-Gate Process, Change Development Process and/or other business process(es).
The Sr. Manager, PMO is accountable and responsible for a team of four program/project managers and two advanced manufacturing engineers. They have ultimate accontability for the projects that the PMO manages, including scope, schedule, budget, resoures. The are expected to work closely with the Visualization leadership team and cross-functional managers to ensure project execution plans align with current strategies, expectations and have sufficient budget and resources for successful execution.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Directly responsible for supervisory/management duties of a team of approximately six employees (Program Managers, Project Managers, Project Coordinator, and Advance Manufacturing Engineers) including coaching, communication, recognition, training and development opportunities, recruiting and hiring.
Leads or leverages cross functional teams to evaluate, develop and manage projects for new product development and ongoing lifecycle management of products, processes and therapies.
Indirectly manage and influence across the global Visualization teams at all levels.
Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management.
Manages the development and implementation process of a company’s products and services involving departmental or crossfunctional teams focused on the delivery of new or existing products and processes.
Responsible for establishing project expectations the Business can rely upon, aligning the organization to these expectations, and delivering on these expectations.
Establishes project charters, communcation plans and metrics.
Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages portfolio-level schedules and prepares status reports.
Monitors the project from initiation through delivery.
Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.
Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.
Gathers requirements, works on requirements planning, requirements elicitation and requirements management to ensure they meet demands of project’s key stakeholders.
Communicates with stakeholders, obtains stakeholder engagement to ensure the end products or processes will solve the business problems.
Responsible for implementing Project Management best practices and developing a high-performance project management office that in turn builds high performance project core teams.
Fosters trust and transparency within the team in order to optimize team functioning and facilitate the surfacing of issues.
Coordiantes the Project Decision Team (PDT) meeting, consisting of Visualtions leads and project stakeholders; ensures project status and relevant risks/issues are communcated to PDT in a timely and effective manner.
Provides feedback to functional department heads during AOP, strategic planning process and the performance management process.
Collaborate closely with the Director of Portfoliio Management
Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent); BS or BA in EE/ Mechanical or technical discipline preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience.
Or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience.
An understanding of the scientific, technical, manufacturing, marketing and regulatory processes involved in the development of a medical device product.
Typically has mastery level knowledge and proven skills within project management with broad understanding of other functional areas.
Experience in the medical device industry- MUST
Must possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate both scientific and business information at all levels inside and outside the organization.
